Do think the new super swimsuits are fair in competition?
I was watching the Olympic swimming tryouts yesterday, and there were records being broken because Speedo has designed these new swimsuits that help the body move more cleanly through the water. Do you think it’s fair that American athletes should have this advantage, or is the spirit of the Olympics more about athletes being equal no matter how much money their country can pay for costumes?
I believe the athletes were scanned and the suits were made specifically to their bodies.
To the person who is a swimmer – I watched the report on ABC News last night, and the reporter specifically mentioned that 400 athletes were scanned by some computer gadget and showed a graphic of it. That could, of course, be totally spurious – but the impression the newscast gave was that these suits were individually created for each swimmer.
Hahhaha, no the athletes weren’t “scanned” to have suits made specifically to their bodies. The suits are called Speedo LZR’s, and they’re open to anyone going to the Olympics. They’re $500. If you’re going to the Olympics, chances are you’re sponsored and have enough money to buy one of those suits. So really, it’s your choice.
I know this is a much-debated subject, but as a US swimmer, almost all of us have expensive suits for competition.. Besides, it’s like a .04 second difference. I’m assuming you don’t swim, but if you did you’d realize that really isn’t THAT much of a difference. If you’re good enough, it shouldn’t matter whether or not you’re wearing a nice suit, right?
