Racer Chin Strap
I have a question about an ex-barrel racer horse?
I adopted a 20yr old ex barrel racer mare. Her previous owner gave me her old hackamore, and said that is all she’s ever used for the last 14yrs. My problem is,, this horse doesn’t realize that she is retired!! (She qualified for world multiple times!!) She will either walk,, or run full out at a gallop. There is no in between with her. She definitely does not like to stop either,, our feed store owner told me that the chin strap/chain was probably too loose, so I tightened that,, but she just throws her head up all over the place, and still doesn’t stop until you almost run her into a wall. I think I need a new hackamore, but I am new at this,, so I am not sure which one will help to get her to stop when we “woah” her. Does anyone have any suggestions?
When she does that make her go in circles until she decides to slow down. As she gets slower mke the circle tighter. I really don’t know if this will work since she’s a barrel horse but she will get tired of running around in circles and slow down eventually.
