Shopping for Plus Size Swim Wear

Shopping for plus size swimwear is a daunting task for women who require it. How do you find a suit that does not expose your problem areas for all to see?

Thanks to today’s designers finally turning their attention to plus size or real women your options are growing.

There are many different styles of swimwear to choose from and we will try and show the advantages of each type and what colors you should try first.

The first style I am going to address is the Skirtini. These are two piece suits available in a tank top, halter top or even the traditional bikini bra. Choose one that has the support you need on the top. Many are available with a built in underwire support. Avoid spaghetti straps, their size will only make your shoulders look larger and offer very little in the way of support. An X or Y shaped back will give you added support.  Choose a nice colored top and a darker solid colored bottom to draw attention away from your hips.

Next is the Tankini. This is a very versatile choice, with many benefits. These are designed to show off your legs without baring your belly. Yet they can be rolled up for sunbathing. Choosing one with a nice curvy neckline will draw attention up from problem areas. These are available in a wide range of colors. For those women who are larger from the waist down, yet have a nice bust you can even choose a top with a plunging neck line to accent that area.

Swim Dresses give you the maximum coverage. However, you lose a lot in the looks department. Just be careful to avoid the potato sack look.

One Piece suits are a good choice for people with a slimmer waist line, excellent bust line or nice legs. Many have built in tops that flow over the belly and hips. Again you need to look for suits that have built in support.

Shortinis are great for covering larger hips and thighs.

With most outfits coming in separates these days you can mix and match the look you want. There are just a few things to remember. Make sure that you get a good fit. The suit should not pinch in the leg or arm areas. Move around in the suit while trying it on. Make sure that it does not ride up in all the wrong places.

As for colors, if you are dark skinned or heavily tanned try medium colors, pale skinned women should go with darker colors. While lighter colors are nice to look at they can give the impression of being faded and worse yet, they can become see through when they are wet. If you are heavier from the waist down choose a bright top with a darker bottom. Large busted women can choose a diagonal pattern to balance out the chest area. Avoid all large floral prints.
