High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Birds of prey are birds that hunt for food primarily on the wing, using their keen senses, especially vision. They are defined as any bird that hunts other animals. Their talons and beaks tend to be relatively large, powerful and adapted for tearing and/or piercing flesh. In most cases, the females are considerably larger than the males. The term raptor is derived from the Latin word rapere (meaning to seize or take by force) and may refer informally to all birds of prey, or specifically to the diurnal group. Because of their overall large size and predatory lifestyle, they face distinct conservation concerns. The observation that otherwise unrelated bird groups may perform similar ecological roles and bear striking morphological similarities to one another is explained largely by the idea of convergent evolution. High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles The Wedgetailed Eagle or Eaglehawk (Aquila audax) is the largest bird of prey in Australia, but it is also found in southern New Guinea. Because of both its tail and its size it is one of the largest birds of prey in the world it can be identified at a glance as a Wedgie even by the nonexpert. The Wedgetailed Eagle is one of twelve species of large predominantly darkcoloured eagles in the genus Aquila found worldwide. A large brown bird of prey, it has a wingspan of up to 2.74 metres (9.0 ft) and a length up to 1.10 metres (3.6 ft).
