Born in Gilead, Nebraska and educated at University of Nebraska where he was an All American, Presnell played for the NFLs Portsmouth Spartans, who later became the Detroit Lions, in the 1930s. After playing in the NFL, Presnell was assistant football coach for the University of Kansas, then an assistant for the University of Nebraska and Eastern Kentucky University. He was Head Coach at Nebraska in 1942 and Eastern Kentucky from 19541963. He was then athletic director at Eastern Kentucky until his retirement in 1974.
